What is the PADI Scuba Diver Certification?
Most people only know about the PADI Open Water Diver certification. But within the official PADI system, there’s a step that sits just below it – one designed to be completed in a single day.
It’s called the PADI Scuba Diver (PSD) certification.
This is not a temporary card. Not a shortcut. It’s a fully legitimate, internationally recognized PADI certification – the first half of the Open Water curriculum. When you’re ready to upgrade, everything you’ve already completed counts. You don’t start over.
What can I actually do with this certification?
“Why not just get certified in Bali?”
It’s a fair question. Bali, Cebu, Koh Tao – tropical destinations where you can learn to dive surrounded by warm water and coral reefs. Sounds ideal, right?
Here’s what actually happens when people try that route.
Finding dive instruction in Seoul that actually works for foreigners has always been difficult. Most centers are Korean-only. At NB Divers, the instructors aren’t translators – they’re dive professionals who communicate in English. Not perfect English. Real English. The kind that gets you through gear setup, safety briefings, underwater signals, and the questions you’ll have at 10 meters down.
And it doesn’t stop when the course ends. Questions before your next trip? Something you want to double-check? Message your instructor directly on KakaoTalk or WhatsApp. The relationship continues – because good dive education doesn’t end when you surface.

Couples & small groups
Doing it together makes everything easier. With a max of 3 students per instructor, couples and friends get dedicated attention – not split between a group of ten strangers.
Morning try-dive. Afternoon certification.
We never pressure you into a decision upfront. “Try it first. Decide at lunch.”
Key insight: The first hour covers Confined Water Training Dive 1 of the Scuba Diver course exactly. Hours two and three flow into Training Dives 2 and 3. Your morning is already part of the certification.

Two PADI Course Directors on staff
Course Directors train other instructors – the highest qualification in PADI. With 30+ years combined experience, they personally oversee all instruction. Very few centers in Korea have even one. We have two.
Instructors who ice dive
Our instructors dive under frozen lakes in sub-zero conditions. That level of experience changes how you think about gear, situational awareness, and safety. They bring all of that to beginner instruction.
EFR Instructor certification
Emergency First Response instructor-level training means our team handles underwater emergencies at the highest standard. When choosing any dive center, ask if instructors hold EFR certification. Ours do.
English, Japanese & Korean instruction
Expat in Seoul, tourist passing through, or overseas Korean – our multilingual instructors make sure nothing gets lost in translation, especially safety information.
Female instructors always available
We have multiple female instructors on our team at all times. Just let us know when you book.
